The John Treacy Festival Weekend will take place in Villierstown from the 25th to 27th May 2012.
The centrepiece of the weekend is sure to be the John Treacy Fun Run which takes place, over a 1k, 5k and 7.5k distance at 2 p.m. on Sunday 27th May, in aid of Concern Worldwide. Walkers, joggers and runners of all ages and abilities are being encouraged to come out and take part in this FREE event in the company of the great John Treacy and other special guests. Registration will take place in Villierstown Hall from 1 p.m. Organisers are encouraging participants to make a donation to Concern on the day.
The Fun Run is far from being the only event over the weekend as this will be a festival packed with fun events for all the family. Friday evening sees the opening of the festival with a Fashion Show taking place in Villierstown Hall starting at 8:30 p.m. There will be a complimentary cheese and wine reception at the show. Admission is €10 and Mary Landers can be contacted for more details at 087-1371500.
On Saturday you can choose to take part in a Car Treasure Hunt at 3 p.m., where a Sat Nav system, sponsored by Halfords is up for grabs as first prize. For the children there is a Treasure Hunt starting at 2 p.m. One of the highlights of Saturday promises to be a Vintage Car display of over 100 vehicles. Saturday's activities will come to a close with an auction and entertainment in an Crusicin Lán from 9 p.m.
The village will really come alive on Sunday when, as well as the John Treacy Fun Run, there will be street stalls, open air music, hot food and children's entertainment, all followed up by entertainment in an Cruiscin Lán to round off a great weekend.
One of the most interesting events on the Sunday will surely be a visit to Dromana House and Gardens, including an historic tour of the house. The house and gardens will be open from 10 to 5 p.m. Entry will include festival refreshments and will cost €10 for adults and €5 for children under 12.
Waterford County Council, Waterford Sports Partnership, Villierstown Community Council, Villierstown Church Company, Villierstown Education and Culture Project , VCG and Villierstown Parents Association are all delighted to be involved in what promises to be a great weekend for the West Waterford village.
All involved are very grateful to John Treacy himself for lending his name and support to this event.
