There will only be 3 performances of “Sanctuary” staged in one of the (extra spooky) disused workhouse buildings, and opening on Halloween Night, bringing the audience an experience of the workhouse like no other.
Parental discretion is recommended for this performance, and viewing by over 12's is advised. Creative workshop places in the studio can be booked for younger children during the performance on 085 7741388 or via info@workhousestudios.com Similar to last year, there are a number of craft workshops to keep the kids occupied over mid-term and thinking about Halloween in a creative way.
Looking back to last year, the highlight, without doubt was the life-sized figurative lanterns workshop with Tom Meskell. A short video of this 2011 workshop in progress is available on YouTube and a really unique creative experience for the lucky 12 who were involved. As an eerie mist set in over the courtyard on Halloween night at the workhouse Paul Wheel, of the Wobbly Circus, took center stage with his fantastic juggling performances. And John McDonagh’s giant pumpkin, so giant that took 5 men to lift, glowed in the mist all night long.
The Kilmacthomas workhouse lends itself perfectly to the atmosphere and excitement of Halloween. What better way to spend it than in this stunningly spooky setting? And when two arts forms of such a high calibre as that of Workhouse Studios and Stagemad Theatre Company combine…the outcome can only be……well you’ll have to visit “Sanctuary” to find out!
