The Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford simply could not take place without the massive volunteer effort and it is quite obvious that in the lead up to and on the weekend of the event each year that the age of volunteerism is still alive and well in County Waterford. Over 400 volunteers from right across the community have worked tirelessly to organise what has now become an annual event in Waterford’s sporting and cultural history over the last four years.
Volunteers come from the staff of Waterford County Council and Waterford Sports Partnership, all of the cycling clubs involved in the project, community groups from all of the localities visited on the day, other sporting organisations and individuals who really wanted to help showcase Waterford for what it is. The tour organisers are also indebted to the hard work and dedication of the Gardai, Civil Defence, Red Cross and South East Mountain Rescue Association who bring so much expertise and experience to the day.
We now want to build on that support for the 2012 tour and we call on community groups, residents associations, sports clubs of all codes, businesses, organisations and individuals throughout the county to join us for the Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford 2012!
Your county needs you in 2012! Some of the areas in which we need volunteers include administration & registration, stewarding, catering, erection of signage, support vehicles, mechanical support, first aid, entertainment and traffic management and parking. We not only require volunteers on the day of the event itself but also in the days leading up to and the days immediately after it. Some of the locations in which volunteers will be required include Dungarvan, Villierstown, Cappoquin, Leamybrien, Mahon Bridge, Mahon Falls, Kilrossanty, Kilbrien, Carrick-on-Suir, Clonmel, Ballymacarbry, Rathgormack, Lismore, Knockanore and Ardmore.
